It might seem simple but cleaning your electronics takes a little extra care than you might think. After all, you don’t want to scratch the lens of the new camera or camcorder you spent a lot of money to purchase rendering it unusable.
Keeping your favorite electronics clean also helps to add years to their lifespan. Here are the items you should have on-hand so that you can clean your favorite gadgets on a weekly basis.
Compressed can of air
Special lens cleaner and cloth
Electrostatic dust cloth
Head-cleaner
Pencil eraser
Soft dry bristle toothbrush
Cleaning your camcorder
Take the compressed can of air and clean the lens. Make sure the dust is gone. Then use a special lens cleaner and special cloth that will not scratch the lens. Administer the cleaner to the cloth first. Then take the cloth and begin cleaning at the center of the lens in a circular motion moving outwards towards the edges. For the inside of the camcorder you will need to use a head-cleaning cassette. Follow the instructions from the manufacturer on the proper use of the head-cleaner.
Cleaning your television
Make sure the television is unplugged before you start to clean. Use an electrostatic dust cloth to dust the exterior of the television. With special screen cleaners, like Pixel Clean, spray the special cloth with the cleaner and then use that cloth to wipe the screen. Newer televisions are made with special coatings to prevent glare, therefore never use common household cleaners to clean the television screen. This could result in stripping away of this protective coating. Repeat this once a week to keep optimal maintenance of your television viewing.
Camera
Make sure there is no film in the camera. If the camera is empty of film, open the inside of your camera and use the compressed can of air. Blow the can of air until the dust is removed. Use the same can of air to blow dust off the outside of the lens. Use a special lens cleaner and a special lens cloth that will not scratch, such as Pixel Clean, to wipe the lens. Spray the cleaner onto the cloth and then wipe the lens. Never spray the cleaner directly on the lens itself. Take a soft dry bristle toothbrush and clean the outer crevices of the camera. Do not use the toothbrush on the lens. To clean the battery contacts take a pencil eraser and clean the area. Dirty contacts can cause the battery life to diminish.
